Sorta. As the long chain polymers become short chain the oil degrades to a 
single weight property. If say a 10W30 degrades to straight 20 (pretty 
close to what happens) then it is thicker than 10 weight at -18C and 
thinner than 30 at 100C.- for a cold start (critical for rapid lubrication) 
it did get thicker.
