In a previous life, I was deep into Pontiacs (and you can get the original
build sheets back to 1959 thanks to one extremely dedicated GM employee).
The number of tripower GTOs easily exceeds the number the factory did
build, might have built or even thought about building. When I developed
the Platinum judging class a phone call to Pontiac was all it took to
verify how a particular car left the factory. Still quite a few
entrepreneurs tried.
Was amazing how few even bothered to add the boxed trailing arms for a
rear sway bar or properly seal the holes (visible inside the trunk) where
it once said "Tempest".
Still, was even more amazing the lengths repop vendors would go - one even
reproduced the PF-23 oil filters (used in 1967 only). Sold quite a few
until one was set next to a real -23 and it was noticed that the logo was
on upside down.
