Jackleg slide hammer: buy a carriage bolt of about 3/8" diameter and any
length over 6". Place nut on end, insert head into bore of throwout-bearing
shaft, hooking behind seal/split ring. Attach Vise-Grips or even just pliers
or 7/16" open-end wrench to nut end of carriage bolt. Whack with hammer in
appropriate direction. It WILL work after a number of whacks. The old seal
will, of course, be toast.
NEVER pry in the bore of the throwout-bearing shaft! NOT ONLY will it
crack and leak, but you will not be able to see the crack!
