<VV> Convertible top frame

I am about to reinstall the top frame in my '65 convertible.  It's a manual
top.  I was wondering if it's easier to install the springs first and then
install the top frame onto the springs, or to install the spring units on
the frame, and then stick the whole shooting match into the car.  My current
guess is that it's easier to install the spring assemblies separately, but I
am eager to hear the voice of experience.
