I've done it. the upside soen powerglide.
I built a new oil pan for the new bottom and used an electric fuel pump to
transfer the oil to the new top.

But Warren didn't mention his most "creative" PG install. The one in his
ex-"Formula SAAB" open wheel autocross car. He just turned the whole Corvair/PG
powertrain around, mounting it mid-engined. Then, to race, he just shifted the
PG into reverse! Reverse in the ol' PG was good for about 50, I guess, with
a race motor against it! Just fine for Autocrossing! Beating that, of
course was the fact that he could have gone 100 MPH backwards! The PG stood up
pretty well racing in reverse, But I remember hearing that it blew up (not just
broke, exploded) at speed when a part failed and other parts ended up at a
too-high rotation rate. I think it was David Hobbs who refers to that as a
"Ka-Blammo!" It was probably the only Corvair that actually needed a
"Trans-Blanket"- Sort of an armored diaper!

- Seth Emerson - Who recalls driving that car (with a manual trans) at the
New Jersey Corsa Convention Autocross in 1984.
