Splines in the bore of the pinion shaft in the differential have stripped.
The output shaft of the transmission in spinning in the bore. Only way to
verify this is to take the transaxle out and separate the differential from
the transmission.

Subject: <VV> HELP clutch won't engage

Problem: will not engage the transmission.... I.E. engine will not drive
the van.

Help! I am helping mu nephew with his new to him 1963 corvair van. It
will not engage the engine to the wheels. It is a 110 with a 4speed sag.
transmission. When I push on the clutch I can feel the fingers of the
pressure plate being engaged and released. When I let up on the clutch
there is slack in the cable at the bell housing, but the van will not
move. When I move the stick shift I can feel the transmission go into
gear. There are no strange noises being made like a stripped gear or a
broken clutch. I am stumped.

So my question is what to check now? I have checked:
1) Clutch cable. It has slack.
2) transmission goes into gear.
3) engine runs... never slows when clutch is released.

Help
Chuck
