for the last 40 years I have used a commercial carb cleaner with a dipping basket. (gunk hydroclean or a similar brand.) note this is the type your automotive shop uses to clean parts and carb parts. put it in the basket and leave it about 20 min then let it drain, and flush with clear water. it may take 2 or three times to get it but be sure it will be clean when you are done. blow out with compressed air and re install.
