My '65 shop manual says the oilite bearing is not
serviceable but the vendors sell them. There is
nothing in the Corsa Tech Guide. I did not want to
pull the distributor apart because I'm planning to go
to the Spring Dust off in New Hampshire tomorrow.

Can someone tell how difficult replacing the bearing
is?

You can do that one David - But first, check the point plate for play. The
movable portion (where the points mount) pivots on a stamped pin that
inevitably wears - both at the pin and the hole. This allows all kinds of slop at the
points - which translates into erratic timing - and not just at idle, by the
way. If you need to replace the bushing, you will have to remove the main
shaft and you will need a small punch or two to remove the roll pins for the
gear and the lower retainer. Be sure to check the condition of the distributor
weights and springs under the point plate. The pins that the weights pivot on
can also wear and come loose. Check them out. PS. Dave Langsather at DALE
Manufacturing does a great job of rebuilding distributors. He is in the Corsa
vendor listings. The bigger vendors sell rebuilts as well. - Seth Emerson
