<VV> Questions: valve adjustment, early/late, ebay, subaru conversion

Does anyone know which method is better for adjusting valves: Cold (static) 
or running and warmed up? Oh, and which is better, an early "classic" Corvair 
or the later "corrected" models?  While we are asking questions, did anyone see 
the NOS turbo crate engine on ebay (Misspelled Carvair) that's going for $25? 
  Has anyone considered installing one of the Subaru 3.0 or 3.2 engines?  
250-300 hp and no cooling issues sounds pretty interesting.
