Tony:

Interesting.  When I last winter put my new-bought-in-the-early-70s 
turbo muffler and tailpipe on my 66 Corsa, the only orientation that 
would roughly center the tailpipe in the body slot was with the exhaust 
almost completely aimed right, with barely enough down tilt to drain. 
This could be influenced by the manufacturing tolerances of the down 
pipe, sheet metal, muffler and tailpipe, but it is all original 
sheetmetal and the exhaust parts are of the same vintage.

At the time, I was unable to find a picture from that era that was 
definitive on pipe orientation, and my mind has long forgotten that 
detail.  What down angle do you believe was GM's intent?
