i run an oil gauge on the adapta bolt in the engine compartment for the first 
oil change on new motors or when i want to know..the guage just threads onto 
the adaptabolt.. but i would not run one all the time.  even if in the  engine 
room they get slapped hard and break if a belt goes.
70's vintage vettes used to fill the radio with oil when the tubing 
fractured..and made a mess of both carpets. it was a common failure back when they were 
new( and i was fixing delco radios for a living).
