Probably the same as the Beetle - retro styling and a FWD water pumper. 
Writing was on the wall in 1960 when the original three-feet-shorter mini 
first came out. The minimum cost design is a power module and some other 
issues (such as form factors - can have more luggage space if trunk is in 
the rear because the wheel wells in the rear do not have to be as large - 
and air flow considerations make a FWD the low cost choice once steerable 
CV Joints became reliable). For example control length is a lot shorter. 
And this is even before getting into HVAC considerations.

This makes the Kappa platform really confusing.

OTOH if you wanted a $100,000 toy then something like the Porsche cult 
might have happened but that was never in the General's game plan.
