<VV> No hot idle

Well I thought the problem was fixed but not. Took to a club meeting in St.
Cloud. Idled nicely with choke when cold and for first few miles (stopped
after five minutes to verify both chokes were full open) and ran sweetly at
65-70 down the turnpike but first stop it died and got progressively worse
until in restaurant parking lot it would not stay running when placed in
gear & pushed into parking place.

Slightly cranky in parking lot when came home, sweet again on turnpike but
stalled/started right up at lights. Was able to get into garage but pushed
into bay.

Starts easily in N when hot but idle gets progressively slower until things
(one member said detonation) rattle and then stops. Dies when put in gear
unless throttle juggled very carefully.

Is '66 110/PG with RH block and 366 heads (correct for 66). PO said problem
began when carbs were changed but persisted with second set. New ignition
(319 distributor, W8AC plugs), carbs rebuilt (024), gaskets, fuel pump
since problem started. 6v on coil positive with points closed so correct
ballast wire in place..

Am thinking it might be some sort of vacuum leak opening up when hot.
Limited samples but MPG seems to be in the 17-20 range. Vacuum off PG
nipple on balance tube shaky 15-17 at 800 rpm, steady 20 at 1500 in
Neutral. Tailpipe somewhat sooty.

PO said always ran well on 87 PON but have been adding only 93 (nine
gallons so far).

Some really good people have already looked at normal things so oddball
ideas are welcome.

Will probably open up things this weekend but upper shroud looks like a
major undertaking.
