<VV> windshield wiper arm paint color

I realize we're not that big on stock details here on VV but I was working on my wiper arms today (because Seth mocked my spatter paint covered wiper motor and one thing led to another...) and I got to wondering, how were the wiper arms originally finished?  Were they painted body color before installation, were they natural metal and just got some overspray on them after installation or what?  It's hard to tell with mine, my car has been repainted and they were clearly oversprayed at that time.  No big deal, I'm just curious.  It's funny, I got my car to drive, I didn't think I'd care about stock this or that but I don't know, something about having a car that's been around for over 40 years gets you to wondering sometimes.
