(Smitty) recommended using Loctite to secure a large 3/8 x 16 bolt, then
grind off the end and drill and tap the correct 1/4 x 20 hole.

Jim McLott & Christine,

If you do the math and you can put a 1/4 x 20 thread down the middle of a
3/8 x 16 bolt, I would do 1 or 2 in a lathe, then goop it with locktite (
outside ) and put the 1/4 x 20 bolt in the "bushing" and thread the whole
thing in using the 1/4 x 20 bolt head. Hmmm ... never seize on the 1/4-20
bolt ...
Then you could blow 1 or 2 before you get a good one ( as in using a hand
drill ) and make sure everything fits. If you dont have a lathe, trade a
lathe-owner buddy a couple cool ones, or give me a call I will give it a try
for some kind words about hillbilly Iowans...
