First make sure it is not just a rocker nut that has backed out. The 
difference is that a noisy lifter will usually quiet down after driving a 
bit and a rocker that needs tightening won't.

If it is a noisy lifter, might try adding a pint of ATF to the crankcase - 
is super high detergent.
