<VV> LM coupe rear speaker housing/or another idea

I have a late model convertible and the best idea I
came up with was to get a good quality small, exterior
grade (With metal housings and mounts) and actually
mounted them under the seats, to the main bottom seat
frame. I point my speakers out the front, but you
could also point them out the rear.
Orbit(I believe) makes a small rount speaker that you
could actually have room to mount 2 under each seat,
and point them pout the front and rear.
Nonetheless, I just thought I would offer this as a
suggestion, cause especially in Verts, the rear
package area is not an option for mounted speakers.
(At best a temp housing when top is up)
No to mention this keeps them completely hidden from
sight,,, and made for some interesting onlookers at
the Charlotte Show, when I left my radio playing for a
while, and there seemed no apparent spear, other than
the front dash, and they knew there was just more
sound coming out than even one of those stereo center
speakers could produce. So, my motto was "Out of
sight, but not out of sound"
Also, they even make a subwoofer that is self
contained, and rounded flat design makes it work under
a seat as well.
Hope this is helpful,

I would say possibly, with a qualification. When I
installed the stereo underdash in my Monza, I was
looking for a good place to put the speakers. I
considered installing behind the rear seat, but I was
concerned about the music competing with the engine
which would have been right behind the speakers (not
that I mind the engine noise...I like it!!!). However
I mounted the speakers under the dash at each end,
hidden from view. I drilled 2 holes in the plastic
retainer of each speaker, then drilled tiny holes in
the metal under the dash, and attached using small
sheet metal screws. You don't know they're there and
the music is away from the engine compartment.

If you put the speakers in the rear, I would stongly
recommend additional insulation (or, for example, a
carpet) on both the cardboard panels from the bottom
of the rear backlight, and the flat surface behind
this panel and the rear seat. Yes, there is
insulation padding behind there, but it's still on the
noisy side in the back of the car. The insulation is
two pads, and therefore this isn't complete coverage
of the cardboard.

I know that Clark's sells this carpet pre-cut, along
with the glue needed to attach it. You can also buy a
piece of carpet to cover the back of the fold-down
seat. This setup looks extremely nice; Tim Schwartz
has it on his mint '65 Monza coupe, My guess is that
this would provide enough insulation to make
rear-speaker installation worthwhile...Bill H.

Guys,
A friend just recently joined the Vair community. He
built a fitted
speaker enclosure that fits between the back of the
rear seat & the
backlight of his LM coupe.
He is considering building more of these - is there a
likely market for
these if he does?
Thanks,
Andy K.
