Smitty Says: Mike's comment about changing an oil pressure switch and the recent thread about gages vs idiot lights brings to mind a tech tip I wrote a while back. Everybody knows that you turn the key on to check the bulb and then start the engine to see if it goes out. If it does then you are good to go, Right? Don't you believe it. What is important is how long it takes for the light to come back on when the pressure has gone away. Try this next time you are in your car. Start the engine and then shut it off again but as soon as it stops moving, turn the key back on. Is the oil light back on again? Bet it's not. In fact, some of you will have time to go to the reefer and get a beer, then drink half of it before the light comes back on. That is how long your engine will be running without oil pressure before you are warned. The length of time between the engine stopping and the red light appearing. You would be amazed how many switches you can go through to
find one that makes contact immediately.
