Cork Nitrile for standard pans, thick paper usually referred to as the lclc of the larry claypool designer gasket on Aluminum pans.  It works for me.

  mine seems to be seeping out of the cork gasket.  I
  admittedly probably messed it up myself overtorqueing
  the nuts in the beginning, but there has to be a
  better alternative.

  What about paper gaskets.

  And why is everyone so opposed to using silicone on
  the gasket surfaces for the pan gasket --- sounds like
  a pretty smart idea from my point of view, as long as
  you are careful not to get any in the case.
