No, is just marketting in reality GM marketting often used words that just 
sounded good. For instance "sedan" means a two or four door closed body but 
to GM a "sedan" is a four door. Similarly, a "hardtop" means a top that 
looks like a convertible but isn't but to GM, a "hardtop means "pillarless" 
(no B pillar) so a "hardtop sedan" to GM is a closed fourdoor that has no 
pillar between the front and rear side windows (can also have a "hardtop 
coupe" which is a pillarless two door).

This at least somewhat makes sense. For real flights of fancy, see 
horsepower ratings.
