It has been the experience of us corvair folks, that the flywheel may need 
to be replaced while you have it in your hand. It's of a  three piece 
construction, held together by rivets. These rivets loosen with age. Dale 
Langsather (?) sells bolted flywheels, as do most of the corvair vendors. I 
HIGHLY suggest you replace this now.
One test of a dud flywheel is to drop it onto a concrete floor from a height 
of a couple feet, and listen for the sound. If it rings like a bell, its OK; 
if it just goes 'clunk', it's bad.
