Only three things - cleanliness, cleanliness, and cleanliness

Drum brakes can work very well so long as bled properly and they stay dry
but if one gets a bit dirty/corroded, particularly a front brake, you can
get the "darts" where the car pulls right or left on first application,
then straightens out when you put some force on it.

This is caused by a problem in the *other* brake (if it pulls left, check
the right drum).

The other problem is a brake that really grabs. This is usually a slight
leak in the slave - not necessarily enough to see a level drop but enough
to get on the lining. Only cure for this is new shoes and a new cylinder
(and best to do in pairs).
