The most reliable car ever built   .. lately ... is a 1985 or so Ford F150
pickup manual trans, straight 300 inch 6,  should be about $600 for a rusty
one .... cant break them or wear them out, and are easy/cheap to fix.
There is probably 50 of them within 100 miles of you.

If snow & Ice is a big factor, think about a 4 wheel drive, but that adds
complexity.
