<VV> no vair '92 Blazer Instrument Gauge Problem

On a '92 full size Blazer - this is the first year of the "new style" for the Blazer/Suburban but the same body used since '88 on the pickups - the instrument gages, except the voltage gage, all go wonky (toward either full negative or full positive) if the headlight switch is turned on and the light dimmer switch is turned up above "off".  

The gages all indicate normal when the headlight switch is off or when the headlight switch is on and the dimmer switch is off. 

Any ideas?  The headlight switch and dimmer are new.  I'm suspicious that the "multi-function" turn signal stalk plays a role in this problem because it has done wierd things before and the cruise control is currently not working unless one wiggles the wiring coming from the turn signal stalk.  The stalk is being replaced now.
