<VV> Car salesmen + Corvair

Letting the manager know that a salesperson was honest and knowledgeable
probably meant he was not a very good salesman, and got him fired, or put in
some other job where he can't do any damage !

My childhood neighbor told me, "Charlie, you like cars, so you don't want to
sell them, because you'll sell them what they want, not what we have the
biggest pile of !"

Plus if you sell them something that they don't want, they will be back
sooner to buy what they do want.

Hmmm....

I was a salesman at my dad's dealership (many years ago in San Diego)
selling VW's, Porsches, Mercedes & Renaults. I was not very good as I
was too honest, although I did learn a lot of the "tricks". My dad
would say, "You don't show them where the car was repainted, you say,
'Not as far as I can tell' ". I just couldn't do that. My experience
has helped a lot, over the years to avoid much of the BS and sales
antics. It is refreshing though when I find an honest, knowledgeable
salesperson- I always make sure I let the manager know.

Corvair content- when I stopped at small side of the road car lot 6
years ago, someone was already looking at the VW convertible my wife
wanted to see, so we meandered around until my 15 year old son dragged
me over to look at this "strange" car. Knowing nothing about Corvairs,
I explained that it was air cooled like a VW and (while quickly counting
the spark plug wires) I informed him that it had 6 cylinders like a 911.
He said, "Cool Dad, let's drive it!" Well, the approaching salesman
heard that, handed me the keys & said here, go ahead. I couldn't resist
& the rest is history!
