<VV> points ignition maintenance philosophy

My "philosophy"? Carry spares and fix it if it breaks - but (in reality) -
I just check things when I think it has "been a while" - probably somewhere
in the 20 to 30,000 mile range. If things check out OK, I leave things
alone. If something is suspect - I pretty much change everything in the
area except the backing plate unless it proves to be tired.

I could tell you a story about a dist cap that looked "FINE". Someone
else's car, but I was supposed to drive it. Everything (including the coil
but not the cap) had been changed out. Time was running out and I had to
leave. The car would not run right - backfires at irregular intervals. A
cap change (at my suggestion - even though it looked JF) and then I'm going
on down the road! But, I'm not going to tell that story - well not the
WHOLE story.

Point (pun?) being - I just change it all once I get in there. I don't
recall ever being stranded for ignition reasons in a Vair. I HAVE supplied
others with parts on club trips.

By All Means (BAM?) - Lube the rubbing block.

Attachments (if any) are scanned with anti-virus software.

Later, JR
