Hey Mark,
I'm going to share our thoughts with the group. For
all, these reflect on the perceived slam at Corvairs.

Hey Mark,

Turbo in a small engine in a passenger car (1962),
four aces on a 6-cyl engine (140) that ISN't in a hot
rod, an eight-door van, minivans, no driveshaft tunnel
(VW has a big hump!), light trucks, FC, rampside, six
seats in a compact, compacts in a big car market,
multiple body styles in the same nameplate...and those
are the ones I can think right now that you didn't
mention. Again, while Corvair didn't do all these
first, some were HERE first, and what car line had so
many innovations and ideas? Even VW didn't do that.
How many people walk up to you and say "I (dad, uncle,
best friend, girlfriend's dealer) had one of these
when we were growing up (in college, first car,
jumping fences, dead drunk), or told you about the one
down the block with the V-8 in the front? People
remember our cars...fondly...and even Orange Crush
with its snarly sound and batshit rotten paint job
draws stares and long-winded people who stop me to
talk about Corvairs.
You are right. Every bad impression I've ever heard
stemmed from Ralph. Every one else seems to love the
'Vair. "Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery,"
as you paraphrased.
