The late model crankshaft is .070 different length than the early
crankshaft.  So the flex plate and bell housing must go with the crankshaft.
The torque convertors are all identical size wise.
If you are putting an early engine into a late model, use the bell housing
and flex plate of the early.  If you are putting a late model engine into an
early, use the late bell housing and flex plate.  The torque convertor
doesn't care!  Be aware that a late Powerglide is beefed up to handle the
extra torque of a 164CI engine so I would be careful in putting a late
engine on an early Powerglde.  You might end up with slippage after the
clutches wear out.
