Had some interesting ideas:

It was a rear-engined <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RR_layout> vehicle in
the style of the Volkswagen
Beetle<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Beetle>and the Porsche
356 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_356> Speedster, which was unusual
for American cars at the time.

I guess rear engined American cars are not unusual in other times?
