They also went the other way - in the early 60's big Pontiacs with tripower 
got a giant 1000 cfm+ air cleaner over all three carbs while the GTO got 
"sporty" individual chrome pots. I once figured that the individual A93C 
cleaners limited the 400CFM (each) end carbs to about 200CFM. No wonder the 
'67 with a single 750CFM QJ was faster (stock).
