<VV> exhaust design, was: AIR CLEANER HOUSING (NOT EXACTLY CORVAIR)

Not sure about the effects of intake changes, but my '84 454 Sub came
from the factory with ONLY 2" exhaust. Even without a catalyst (it's
over the gov's weight spec) but with dual exhaust, it was always blowing
the head to manifold gaskets and leaking exhaust. So I put on Hooker
headers with 3" collectors into a Dr. Gas crossover, and 2 1/2" pipes
from there, thru turbo mufflers and out the back. Not only will the
truck now put you back in the seat from a standing start (something it
couldn't do before) but it picked up about a mile/gallon milage AND is
now significantly quieter at highway speeds. A gain on all three fronts!
Can't beat that with a stick. :o)

BTW, I haven't done anything with the stock intake. Yet.
