< < What do you mean a 100/140 watt soldering gun is not NASA soldering approved? If a Weller brand soldering gun will not heat wires enough to flow solder, then your tip nuts are not tight. > >

Aside from bad jokes about nuts (and tightening them will help, if helping a lost cause is worthwhile in the first place), I'd like to offer this observation to list members who do not worship at the Altar of Weller:

Trig-R-Heat

well, it used to be a brand -- you might find some hits on e-bay with the word vintage attached, but if you are tired of *trying* to solder outside in Michigan (or Minnesota or Wyoming) in the winter or re-creating those 4-way wyes that GM used in that #10 hot wire, you need Trig-R-Heat.

Fortunately, Sears comes to the rescue (amazingly) -- a 150/400 watt Craftsman Professional Dual Heat Soldering Gun, Sears item #00927320000, Mfr. model #27320, can be yours for about $60.

It is the same unit as the Trig-R-Heat, it just doesn't have that brand name molded into the case these days (it used to).

And it *will* solder #10 wires outside in Michigan winters if you can stay out of the wind.

A high wattage element (300/600? -- #R490500, $80) may be available from your Snap-On dealer -- the 150/400 watt gun is Snap-On Stock #R490 for about $100 (same as Sears, just more expensive).
