My son, recently returned from a year in Iraq, used the same method to set 
the beads on truck tires.  It works, but then again, they also blew up a 
couple of HUMVEE tires......they had "mission-critical" work to get done 
with few tools to work with, and a destroyed tire or two was nothing much 
more than a little "collateral damage" in the larger scheme of 
things......YMMV!
