Hey John,

Thank you! Finally, someone steps up with solid science to answer the question. If we all did this, there would be 50 fewer e-mails on any one subject.
You also answered MY question. I know just enough about welding to know that when you introduce something foreign into a weld, it compromies the joint. You verified it makes a lousy joint.

Actually, it doesn't....at least NOT in your lifetime (Olde Time hot-dip
galvanizing used retort zinc that often contained a fair percentage of
cadmium....but any galvanizing done since the 1920's, and the Corvair would
certainly qualify, has used 99.99% pure electrolytic zinc which has NO
cadmium, or anything else!)! It "emits" zinc oxide, which, if you've ever
had kids, is what you rub on a baby's ass when it has diaper rash! It makes
for a lousy weld and can induce a "one time", highly unpleasant neurological
reaction known in the metal industry as "zinc chills" (sometimes called
"zinc fever")....but you won't die from it. Don't believe....check the
MSDS!

In a closed area it can kill you.

Hooo boy! Since when do "PROFESSIONAL welder"s have degrees in industrial
hygene, metallurgy, and/or metallurgical engineering? Don't believe me?
Read the MSDS!

When all else fails.....READ THE DIRECTIONS!
