Connie,your driving can be lumped into 2 "modes",,sedate city,35mph limits,,and highway...for the city,use 1st to about 10mph then work between 2nd and 3rd,gauge the traffic and learn to 'think ahead'-downshift before you need to be in a lower gear like when turning a corner (don't shift IN a corner/turn,but before it)...at highway speeds,3rd works well for 40-65mph and you'll notice there's one 'spot' it'll sound/feel  smooth,'right',at the beginning of the power/torque range...the "big grin" starts here...use 4th for holding any speed above 35...turn the radio off,listen and feel the car as you drive,practice shifting between 2nd and 3rd and 2nd,,and don't forget where you're supposed to be going..<GGG>...Tom,CDL since 1978
