That is because "it depends". A barrel of petroleum holds 42 gallons of 
"stuff". Now what that "stuff" becomes depends to a great amount on where 
it came from. The "stuff" that comes from the Alaskan pipeline or 
Venezuela  mostly becomes diesel or bunker fuel because that is all it is 
good for. The "stuff" that comes from the Arabian peninsula or Texas can 
produce quite a bit of high octane gasoline (up to about 19.5 gallons plus 
a number of other products (kerosine, asphalt, tar, etc.)). It all depends 
on what kind of "stuff" you begin with and how far it is refined.

Like the pig, it is all used except the oink, but exactly what it becomes 
just depends.
