Yes, Norm and Bill are correct on the 2 out of 3 being the best you can
hope for (in many cases, only 1 of the 3). To be more specific, the
cost of my project will (hopefully) be in the low 5 figures at a very
low shop rate. I have completely disassembled the car -- the glass is
the only thing left that has not been removed (the painter will do
that). The interior is completely gutted and the suspension is off
(it's on a rotisserie). Before delivering the car to the painter, the
underside will be blasted (it went to the blaster today) and painted.
Likewise the trunk and engine compartment. All repair work under the
car will have been done. Exterior bodywork and blasting will be done by
the painter to avoid any issues with who did (or didn't do) what.

I (with the help of my wife) am doing the suspension -- it's completely
disassembled and almost ready for the powder coater. New bushings, new
springs, new ball joints, new shocks, new brakes, new Flaming River box,
new wiring harnesses etc. New custom interior, built engine, 4 spider
differential, bolted flywheel, Dale distributor, SafeGuard, and the list
goes on. When it's done, the only thing not replaced or rebuilt will be
the instrument cluster and the transmission.

The point is that I could save a lot of time and money by simply buying
a car already completed. However, there is a strong sentimental factor
involved, so the money pit is getting a lot poured into it.

Unless you enjoy doing resto work (I do), sell the car and purchase
something already completed -- they are out there. You'll save time,
money, and frustration.
