OK the answer seems to be too use a propane torch with a wire bush attachment while soaking in Easy-Off Oven cleaner. One or more of them should work. And now to be sure since the service manual is not clear, does the long vent on the hump on the baffle cover face the passenger side ? I have a feeling that the orientation is important. Padgett
