<VV> Hard to Start

  Forgive my ignorance, but if I hadn't, would the car start by the aid 
  of the starting fluid, and idle perfectly?

  Teach me how to measure the voltage running to it. I know 
  next to nothing about coils and generators - but I do have 
  a dwell/rpm/volt device.
