Supposedly GM bought them all back quickly (except two - those two  museum 
pieces) and dumped the remains in Lake Eire. Brock Yates (not always the  best 
source, of course) mentioned it in his famous Car & Driver critique of  GM 
after the Corvair was dropped.  Calling the discontinuation of the  Corvair a 
shame that "not even the icy depths of Lake Eire could hide" (or  something like 
that). I have visited both the Harrahs museum and the Greenfield  Village Ford 
Museum (Not to be missed if you visit Detroit for the 2007  convention) and 
have seen both surviving "Copper-cooled" Chevrolets. -  Seth
