<VV> Difficult jobs

This week end I did a job on a 65 automatic customer car that I had not done 
before. That was replace the heater control cable. That's the long one in 
the tunnel. I have done this and all the other heater repairs on other 
Corvairs but with the engine out of the car. Actually, it went well. I was 
able to get the retainer off the heater end of the cable (it was broken 
under the dash) with my fingers and the 1/4" clamp screw was accessible with 
a small ratchet and socket. It was by feel as I could not see it but it came 
out easy.
Also replaced the heater hose on both sides. The clamp at the heater end was 
easily twisted and broken due to rust which is what I hoped would happen. 
All the clamps were replaced with the all stainless worm gear type. This car 
had all the under body rust a Corvair gets from sitting for long periods in 
a dirt floor garage. The tunnel pans had never been removed. It really was a 
Little Old Lady car that was sold when she was too old to drive it anymore.
The guy was real happy to have heat and defrost now that the weather is 
changing. I was happy to have a paying customer who doesn't quibble! After 
his having dealt with other "mechanics" before he found me he thinks I a 
Corvair expert!
