It is funny how stereotypes stick to a place. Arizona is a MOUNTAIN
state, not a DESERT state. Arizona has more pine trees than Oregon
does. Arizona has less desert than Oregon does. But everyone
pictures AZ because they usually see Phoenix. They picture Oregon
because they see the coast/Portland. Almost nobody knows the mountains of
AZ.

However - Most of the population of Arizona lives in the Desert areas, in
the unrelenting heat in a circle around Phoenix. There is a strip of population
along the old route 66 - Flagstaff, etc. And Flagstaff, is truly beautiful,
with plenty of mountains and pine trees. In Oregon, almost nobody lives in
the desert. People have the correct impression of both, because that is where
the population is - also where the jobs are. People do move to the mountain
areas of Arizona - as well as the desert areas of Oregon. But not most people.
