<VV> Speedometer cable... again

[Cash Case]

Hi guys- I just got the grease cap with the plastic insert from  
Clark's. I put it on this morning. Now I need to trim off the cable  
core to the correct length. I assume it has to be a bit longer then  
the housing, but I've no idea how much longer.
Does anyone know what that length might be? I'm guessing that if I  
make it too long it will damage the outer cable and possibly the  
speedometer.
