Good point Curt, but this is not just a Corvair issue, but extends 
throughout the GM product line, and moreover, is a problem in nearly any 
vehicle with a movable points plate -- not saying that electronic 
ignitions are not an improvement, just that points did work, up to their 
capability (and could generally be fixed by the side of the road)

GM's HEI had wear problems associated with failure to lubricate the 
mechanical advance weights and rotor burn through, so even such a 
vaunted system as HEI is not fool proof when it is not maintained, and 
neither is Pertronix.
