A similar explanation for a tight spot can be developed for an out of
round journal and out of round bearing (or left half of a bearing not
aligned with right half).

If I may interject, as both an engineer and a former race engine builder,
but a "tight spot" can be induced by conditions a LOT less severe than a
bent crank. Something as innocuous as a little stray oil or assembly grease
UNDER the bearing (between the case and the bearing shell) can temporarily
distort the shell enough to give a you "hitch" you can feel as you hand-turn
the crank. It's one of the reasons we turned the crank by hand (sort of, we
used a starter motor) until we had full oil circulation and pressure before
we got our boxers in a bunch about a rotational "hitch"!

I'm not disagreeing with anyone...but jumping immediately to an obvious
"worst case" scenario can be as counter-productive as ignoring an obvious
"danger signal"!
