I remember - I think it was back in 1978 - some folks
were a little shocked when they took their full sized
GM cars in for service and found that the company was
now using PLASTIC gears in the Turbo-Hydramatics
instead of metal!

It was predicted that the gears would wear and cause
premature tranny failure.  From what I remember
though, those 1977- big cars were pretty bulletproof
for the most part.  Lots of big Chevys were used as
taxis and they ran for hundreds of thousands of
miles...so I don't know if this was an issue or not.

The worst car I ever owned was a 76 Volvo 244DL.  One
friend after another told me how bulletproof Volvos
were, but mine was the biggest lemon around.  It was
the only car that would crap out on the highway at 60
miles per hour and refuse to start...Bill H.
