<VV> Flow thru rockers?

The 1965-69 Corvairs were supposed to have "flow thru rockers" where the
water entering the grill ahead of the windshield was supposed to flow thru
the rockers and exit some tiny flap at rear.
"What a bunch of crap" (literally!) Yesterday I had my rusty 1965 Monza
sedan up on the scissors hoist and decided to check things out. I got a
1-1/4 hole saw and cut holes in the bottom of my rocker panels. The front
holes just behind the inner wheel well and the rear holes just ahead of the
rear wheel well. What came out of there was amazing! Rust, leaves, sticks,
dirt, bugs, upholstery padding (mouse nest), chunks of body seam sealer and
everything else that falls thru the grill. I had a pile of crud about a
foot in dia. and two inches high at each hole. And that was just what I
could reach with my finger!
When I get the car out in the driveway I'll flush the rockers out with the
garden hose.
It's no wonder cars rust out! No place for the crud to escape. If you have
a show car, you probably don't want to cut holes in it but in my case it is
just a beater to drive to Corvair events so I am going to leave the holes
open.
