I've checked the vacuum modulator at the fire wall using a vacuum
gauge. It held 7Hg for about ten minutes before I manually released
it: vacuum module nixed as the culprit. I then replaced the hose
connecting the metal line from the module to the balance tube using
3/16" inch hose and screw type hose connectors for good measure. I
then used a section of old bicycle tube cut to fit, to cover the
fresh air duct. I manually inspected the balance tube for leaks.
Both carburetor connections are new and tight and there are no holes
in the metal tube. After reinstalling the air cleaner assembly, I
checked the vacuum at the choke pull off hose using the vacuum
gauge. I got a fluctuating reading that rapidly went between 7 and
12 Hg. As I manually increased the the rpm using the throttle cross
rod, the Hg reading rose, but still rapidly fluctuated between about
10-14 Hg. I have yet to check the PCV valve or the idle up solenoid.
I topped off the transmission fluid and took it for a spin. No,
change. It is still shifting into D at about 13-18 mph, there is no
kick down, and it is still kicking like a mule when it shifts from D
to L. I also have a sticking parking brake, which I have
temporarily resolved by putting the car into reverse and stepping on
the brake - will get to that next.
