i have been magnetizing my dipsticks and drain plugs for a while now.   in 
differentials i have a strong magnet (out of bad hard drives) on the cover.  
been there in several for over 4 years. they collect the fine metal particles  
that shorten bearing life.
i always find small bits of clutch material in powerglides .most of the non  
magnetic stuff is not a concern. i laugh when i read about not using rags on  
tranny parts because lint can cause problems ...then see the chunks that go  
thru.
its when i find pieces of lifter snap rings in the engine oil  magnent,  i 
get kinda concerned....lol?
