it is the same for all cars -- if you don't maintain them, they fall apart

maintenance in the sixties used to mean a trip to the garage at least 
every 5,00 miles or so, brake adjust, oil change, lube, some over eager 
gas jockey trying to sell shocks (commission), etc, with the car up on 
the hoist and a qualified mechanic under it looking for loose stuff to 
fix and charge you for.  nowadays that stuff is all different ...

while front engine water pumpers don't generally drop engines on the 
ground, they can and do drop trannys, rear axles (the whole thing) and 
sometimes they just loose just a rear axle shaft or driveline.  early 
guys, keep you nuts tite and your cotters in -- laters & UVers gotta 
keep an eye on the glue holding the rear mounts together (Dale & others 
make replacements ...)

vee dubs loose the four nuts on the "bell housing" bolts and when they 
push on the clutch, it just shoves the engine out the back -- normally, 
normal sober people notice something is wrong (clutch) before that 
happens ...
